Jessi received a NWO XS grant titled “Solar-driven CO₂ Conversion for Sustainable Chemical Production”. Sunlight is a powerful and abundant energy source to drive chemical reactions and to directly store renewable energy in chemical bonds. However, chemical industry still relies predominantly on fossil fuels as both energy source and feedstock. Achieving a sustainable, circular economy requires rapid defossilization and the development of new processes that convert CO₂ into valuable chemicals using renewable energy. In this XS project, Jessi will explore a novel and sustainable photocatalytic pathway for CO₂ conversion into CO for the production of green fuels and chemicals using sunlight and an innovative bio-inspired catalyst material with unique light-harvesting properties.
