Congratulations to Dr. Kristiaan Helfferich, who successfully defended his PhD thesis on June 16^th, supervised by prof. dr. Petra de Jongh and dr. Jessi van der Hoeven. In his thesis, Kris investigated preparation methods for bimetallic paladium catalysts. Using advanced electron microscopy techniques as his primary set of characterization methods, he found preparation methods to colocalize nickel and paladium on catalyst supports. This colocalization has a positive effect on the catalysts’ hydrogenation reactivity and selectivity.
