On November 29th we celebrated the 35-year existence of the Debye Institute. The symposium was opened with an historical overview by Alfons van Blaaderen who shared his memories and rare archival photos of the early years of the Institute and some episodes of its rich history.
Exciting ongoing research in the institute was highlighted by five speakers, one from each Debye group. Jessi van der Hoeven, Hai Wang, Lisa Tran, Marlous Kamp and Machteld Kamminga gave inspiring presentations on their current research.
Completely in Debye style, all speakers met with deep and sometimes critical questions from the engaged audience, and new ideas for collaboration sprang up in the breaks. After closure by Ingmar Swart, it was time for informal exchange and networking.
